Privacy Policy

1. About this site

shankarwifi.com is a personal technical reference library covering IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi protocols, operated by Shankar K., Wi-Fi engineer, Irving, TX, USA. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages via Velsoft Technologies LLC. No registration is required to access any content on this site.

2. What we collect and why

We collect information in two ways only:

(a) Voluntarily — if you subscribe to the 802.11 Field Notes newsletter, you provide your email address to Beehiiv, our newsletter platform. We use this solely to send you updates when new pages or posts are published. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

(b) Automatically — we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand which pages are visited and how the site is used. Cloudflare Analytics is privacy-first: it uses no cookies, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking, and does not build user profiles. Aggregated page view counts help us know which content is most useful.

We do not collect names, IP addresses, device identifiers, or any personally identifiable information through our analytics.

3. Comments (Giscus)

Comments on reference pages are powered by Giscus, which uses GitHub Discussions. To leave a comment you must have a GitHub account and authorise the Giscus GitHub app. When you comment, your GitHub username and comment text are stored in the shankarwifi GitHub repository's Discussions. This data is governed by GitHub's Privacy Policy (docs.github.com/privacy). We do not store comment data independently.

Please do not include personal or sensitive information in comments.

4. Newsletter (Beehiiv)

If you subscribe to 802.11 Field Notes, your email address is stored by Beehiiv, Inc. Beehiiv is our newsletter platform. We use your email address only to send publication updates — new pages, new posts, new PCAPs in Frame Lab. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with any third party.

Beehiiv's privacy policy is available at beehiiv.com/privacy. To unsubscribe, use the link at the bottom of any newsletter email. Removal is effective immediately.

5. Analytics (Cloudflare)

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics. This tool does not use cookies. It does not track you across sites. It does not build a profile of you as an individual. It provides us with aggregated, anonymised page view data — we see that a page was visited, not who visited it.

6. Cookies

shankarwifi.com does not set any first-party cookies. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies. Giscus may set a session cookie if you log in with GitHub to leave a comment — this is governed by GitHub's cookie policy. No tracking cookies are used on this site.

7. Third-party links

shankarwifi.com links to external sites including app.wlananalyser.com, wlananalyser.com, github.com, and linkedin.com. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these sites. We encourage you to read their individual privacy policies before providing any personal information.

8. Advertising

shankarwifi.com displays no advertisements. We are not participants in Google AdSense, Amazon Affiliates, or any advertising network. No advertiser receives your data through this site.

9. Data sharing

We do not sell personal data. We do not share personal data with third parties except as described in this policy (Beehiiv for newsletter delivery, GitHub/Giscus for comments). We may disclose information if required by law, a court order, or to protect the security of this site.

10. Children

shankarwifi.com is a technical reference site for Wi-Fi engineers and students. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit any information to this site. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

11. Data retention

Newsletter email addresses are retained for as long as you remain subscribed. You can unsubscribe at any time. Cloudflare Analytics data is aggregated and anonymised — no individual records are retained. GitHub comment data is retained as part of the repository's Discussions and governed by GitHub's data retention policies.

12. Your rights

You may request information about what data we hold about you, ask for correction or deletion, or withdraw consent for newsletter communications at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at feedback@wlananalyser.com. We will respond within 30 days.

13. Security

shankarwifi.com is served exclusively over HTTPS with TLS encryption. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which applies its own infrastructure security. We do not store passwords or payment information. While we take reasonable precautions, no online transmission is 100% secure.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the site evolves. Changes will be posted at shankarwifi.com/privacy with an updated effective date. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes we will note them prominently.
